Description
Bolehill Quarry, located in the Peak District, is a former limestone quarry with a rich industrial history. The quarry was active from the 19th century until its closure in the mid-20th century and was primarily used for extracting building stone for the nearby Howden and Derwent Dams. Today, it is a popular site for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts, with remnants of the quarry’s infrastructure, such as old buildings and stone features, still visible. You can also still see the broad, flat tracks where the railways were laid. The steep incline leading down to the railway line, just west of Grindleford Station. The workings are now being colonised by self-sown birch and are grassed over. The surrounding area offers stunning views of the Peak District landscape, making it a notable spot for both its historical significance and natural beauty.
